Clueless- Conclusion

Kaustub Jha was a brilliant officer who was recently transferred from Malangwa to the capital, because of his diligence and the consistency he showed, towards his work. He was the only one who could bear Mann's anger and calm him down. Jha was in his seventh year of his service. Sometimes his old mind would try to remember where he started, and where he's now.

The hair would always be perfectly combed and caressed with oil. He would always have a comb in his back pocket and a small mirror in his shirt pocket. The thick mustache was the proof of his manhood as once he told, "Everyone in my locality has a thick mustache and a stocky body."

He was happily married for four years now and gifted with a son who's just learned to speak. His family is resided at his hometown. The phone conversations are the only thing that lights his day. There's no woman nearby to control his daily timetable. The gastritis was playing with his body since three years now. He always had a medicine for the immediate effect but it wasn’t making any long term impact.

The rays of the sun was peeking out of the darkness and the small murmurs of the vehicles could be heard now. Mann’s car finally arrived and he walked out of his car. He threw his cigarette and stepped on it before taking out the documents from the car.

“I hope you haven’t started without me, huh Jha?”
I hope fuckin’ not.” Mann’s voice was too loud for the morning silence.

“Seven months. Its been seven already and I know I shouldn’t mess with you haha.” Jha calmed him down as always.
“Haven’t even touched the garage shutter.” He added.
“Lets dig it then.” Mann responded.

The garage shutter had lost its charm because of the rust. The shutter was unlocked but really tough for them to open. Maybe rust played its role too.

The car was a Silver colored Hyundai Eon, portable for the victim’s small family. The car looked almost brand new and looked like it was recently given for servicing.
Jha had the keys so he approached forward and opened the car for Mann to enter.
“I hope this fuckin’ car has something for us.” Mann said.
“Gloves. There might be fingerprints.” Jha handed him the gloves.
“Its Nepal. Are you fucking kidding me Jha? It takes three days to identify a single print.”
“and its a car. It’ll take forever.” Mann laughed out.
“Just put on the gloves, will you? Jha was uninterested.
Mann snatched the gloves and put it on.
“I found these there.” Jha was holding some papers.
“What are they?” Mann responded without looking at him.
“English.” Jha felt ashamed.
“How can the department can hire illiterate people for field work. Fucking bastards.” Mann said.
“Hard work.. Strategy Diligence maybe.” Jha defended.
“Come on now, just read it.” Jha added.
“Its of some transactions made in Fewa Bank in Pokhara and flight ticket receipts of two days ago.” Mann said.
“Jha assign someone to find out the details. It must lead us to something. Just wake up some asshole and assign him this.”  Mann ordered.
“Tell him I want the fuckin details in an hour or else he’s fired.” Mann added.
“Harsh. “ Jha murmured and walked away.

Jha was busy in a call when Mann’s phone vibrated and the screen showed his wife’s number. He ignored the call again and texted her, “Stuck in a case. Urgent.”

“The flight receipts were of two people. Jha call the airlines and find out the name of passengers. Atleast they use technology for their records unlike some useless twats.” Mann ordered something to distract himself.
Jha was again assigning someone for the details. Mann was lost in his world and quiet for sometime.

“What happened?” Jha’s voice came all of a sudden.
“What? Fucking nothing.” Mann trying to stay normal.
“You are quiet and not saying anything. There must be something.” Jha said.
“Not now. Focus on the case.” Mann ignored.
Jha walked away with his face down but hoping the best for Mann.
It was already half an hour since Mann ordered for the details. The clock showed 9:30. The sun was shining with the pollution of the Kathmandu, increasing with the number of vehicles.
“I got the details about the flight passengers. It was our victim and someone named Nisha Singh.”
“Later I found out that she worked in Fewa Bank, Kathmmandu Branch.” Jha stated the details to Mann.
“Drive the car. Lets meet this Nisha girl.” Mann threw the keys to Jha.
Jha grabbed the car keys and started the car and they headed to Fewa Bank.
After 10 minutes of silence, they reached Thapathali with of course the traffic jam.
“Nisha Singh. Call her.” Mann ordered the receptionist.
“Who? Who are you?” The receptionist replied.
“Just fucking call her. We are from the police.” Mann shouted.
“Ma’am please call her. We need to interrogate. You must have heard about the murder last night.” Jha was trying to handle the situation.
The receptionist made a call.
“There are officers waiting to talk to you.” She said on the phone.
(After listening to what she said) Okay Ma’am.
“Sir please wait for 10 minutes and you can go talk to her. Please sit down there. I’ll call you when she’s ready.” The receptionist said politely.
The two of them sat on the couch keeping certain distance between them. Mann’s phone vibrated one more time and it was from his wife. He ignored it again. This time Jha saw him ignoring it.
“I don’t think I can make it work anymore.” Mann broke the silence.
“Maybe I am too focused here and can’t find a fuckin’ balance.” Mann added.
“I am living miles away from my family and still can make it work.” Jha responded.
“You have no right to say so.” Jha added with a bit of anger.
“Its been ages since we talked properly. How do you do this, I dont know.” Mann’s voice was really low for a change.
“It’s just. Just make it work. Just give her the time she deserves. Small talks maybe. Not even lengthy conversation.” Jha wanted to say more. He was interrupted by the receptionist who was showing them the way upstairs.
They walked upstairs without making any eye contact. The glass door was scribbled with the name “Nisha Singh” with her designation “Deputy General Manager”.
“Good Morning officers. How can I help you?” She greeted them well.
“You are the one from the pictures. The photo albums of the family. Take it out Jha.” Mann said.
“I hope you know about the murder.” Jha said taking out the pictures.
“It seems like you were close with the family but you don’t seem affected by the incident at all.” Jha added.
“I am deeply saddened by the death. If you may ask, I went to meet his brother too. Early morning today.” She defended herself.
“I sure hope so too.” Mann was strolling around in her office.
“So anyways we found that you and Mr. Kharel went to Pokhara three days ago. Why was that?” Jha asked.
“His company recently set up a security system in our branch in Kathmandu. So we wanted to set the same software in Pokhara too.” She replied.
“And what are those huge amount deposits in one of the accounts of your bank?” Jha asked her again.
“Huge amount deposits? I don’t know anything about that.” She responded again.
“Okay let it be. I’ll take off now. We will contact you if we need you.” Jha said.
They both walked out before she could say anything else.
“Jha, find out whose account number is that. And do it quietly. Make sure she doesn’t find out. Fast.” Mann ordered.
Jha started the car and was waiting for the call from the one who was assigned to give him the account information.
Mann was trying to analyse his family situation and trying to find a way out of the mess.
After about 5 minutes, someone called Jha. Jha’s eyes were telling that he was shocked.
“The account belongs to Madhav Kharel. But the account seems private as it was not easily accessible with firewalls. Tracing it is really tough.” Jha said.
“Fuck. I hope its the brother. And I am not even that shocked.” Mann responded calmly.
“Lets give him a visit then.” Mann added.
Jha pushed on the accelerator and they drove towards his house.
The whole house was mourning with some of his distant relatives. The brother had lost his mind after the incident. He was wearing the white coloured clothes with the sadness clearly being seen on his face.
“Jha, go and talk with him. I might fuck this off.” Mann stayed outside.
“Mr. Kharel, can we talk for a moment? Alone?” Jha asked.
“Ye—es. Please wait there in the drawing room.” Mr Kharel was pointing towards a room.
After about two minutes, Mr. Kharel entered the room.
“Tell me sir, any news about the incident? “ Mr. Kharel asked.
“Don’t act like you know nothing now.” Jha replied.
“What? What do you mean?” Mr. Kharel asked again.
Jha threw the transactions on the table and said, “Don’t you remember these? 2 crores Nepali rupees in your Fewa Bank account?”
“What?” Mr. Kharel was shocked.
“Don’t act. Why was that for?” Jha slammed the door now.
“I don’t know. I didn’t even know that I had an account in Fewa. I seriously don’t remember having one.” Mr. Kharel explained.
“Who made it for you then? And why is it too secure?” Jha asked again.
“I don’t know.” Mr. Kharel responded again.
“I would know if I had an account in some bank. I have 7 accounts in 7 banks. Here are the list and the account numbers if you wish to verify.” Mr. Kharel wrote down something.
“I am not convinced yet but we’ll meet again Mr. Kharel.” Jha walked out of the door.
Jha interpreted everything to Mann about what happened inside.
“Jha, assign people to check the accounts with the financial transactions. Fucking quick. Call those noobheads.” Mann ordered.
Mann lit another cigarette while Jha was making calls. Jha drove back towards the office now.
After driving for almost 15 minutes, they reached their office in Gaushala.
One of the officers was ready with Mr. Kharel’s financial transactions of different banks.
“Sir, these are the transactions and the man doesn’t even have enough money to survive.” The officer reported.
“And he hasn’t deposited or withdrawn anything since 4 months.” He added.
“That fucking twat has nothing in any of the banks. And he has 20 million in a bank which he has no idea about.” Mann said.
“But wait..you said its untraceable right? And his brother worked in a software company that set up a software there. Maybe he did it.” Mann came with an intuition.
“But why? Why fucking why?” Mann was irritated.
“Lets go to Jinx Technologies and track the fuckin’ money from the start. I need to see who did it belong to in the first place.” Mann said.
“Jha, I’ll drive. Lets go. And you two fucking lousy heads. I need you to keep an eye on that Nisha girl and Mr. Kharel.” Mann ordered.
“And that guy on the computer. Go and talk to the witness once. See if she has any new information. Take a sketch artist with you incase its necessary.” Mann added.
“Sir, I am a technician, not allowed on the field.” The computer guy was shivering.
“Go fuck yourself then. You are useless.” Mann walked towards the door.
“Assign someone useful with the work. I need results. Fucking results.” Mann slammed the door and walked towards the car. Jha followed him quietly.
The Jinx Technologies was a huge company linking with many other financial institutions making it secure.
“Who’s in charge?” Mann shouted at the receptionist.
“Its the police. I need someone in charge.” Mann added.
While the receptionist was searching for the words to reply, someone said, “Sir, here here let me help you. I am the General Manager here, Sanchet Shrestha.”
“Alright, Mr. Sanchet I hope you are aware about the sad demise of one of your staffs.” Jha said.
“We are deeply affected with the news. I feel pity for the poor souls.” Mr. Shrestha said.
“Enough with the talking. I need to meet your technical team. Arrange your best man. I hope he is fucking worthy.” Mann said.
“Alright sir. Wait a second.” Mr. Shrestha replied.
“Call Rejan.” He asked the receptionist.
After a few minutes, one guy with his specs on, came and greeted everyone.
“Just tell me if you can help or not. I need to track this account and find the origin of the money.” Mann interfered.
“I will try my best sir.” Rejan said.
After spending half an hour on the computer, he could find out that the owner of the account was Mr. Madhav Kharel but nothing more.
“You are useless.” Mann said furiously.
“I tried sir but the security is too good. I worked under him who did this.” Rejan defended himself.
Arghhh. Mann was so angry that he said nothing and walked away. Jha tried his best to greet everyone and walked slowly out of the office.
They drove towards the office.
“Calm down Mann. We will find a way.” Jha tried to calm him down.
“Fuck calm. Fuck the case. We had one lead. And that led us to a fucking dead end.” Mann was furious.
Jha tried his best to calm him down but was continuously failing to do so.
After a drive of around fifteen minutes, they reached their crib.
The environment was all peaceful and nobody even wanted to face Mann.
The computer guy stood up and walked in front of Mann.
“Sir, my name is Anish. Please let me look at it. I think I can be useful here.” He said.
“The useless guy. The fucking useless guy helping. Seriously?” Mann laughed him off.
“Atleast let him try. Mann we already have a dead end. Maybe there’s a way out.” Jha tried to convince him.
“Okay. Let the shithead try.” Mann threw the papers at him.
Anish Pradhan was a fresh employee who had just joined the service a week ago and he was gifted with a case already. The big headphones on his ear and the messy hair resembled his tech personality.
Anish was the one who tracked the account number and revealed the owner. The details were also provided by him. He was the topper in the tech field of the police academy.
After about 10 minutes, Anish was ready with the details.
“There’s been something. The money is no more there. Its been transferred without any trace.” Anish interpreted.
“What the fuck? I knew he could do nothing good.” Mann shouted at him again.
“Calm down Mann. Let him explain.” Jha defended.
“Sir, the money was transferred, like a few minutes ago. There’s nothing left.” Anish said.
“Fuck off. But the criminal made a mistake though.” Mann was happy.
“Jha, lets go back to Jinx. They were the ones with the account number and everything. And you noobhead, follow the money. Like in whose account, its been transferred.” Mann ordered.
They both rushed back to the car.
“Finally a breakthrough.” Jha was happy.
Mann nodded but was serious in his thought.
In less than 10 minutes, they reached the Jinx premises.
“Call Rejan. Call Rejan. I need him right away.” Mann exploded inside the office.
The receptionist was terrified but Rejan was no where to be seen.
The receptionist called his cabin but there was no response.
“Sir its lunch hour. Maybe he is in the cafeteria.” The receptionist said slowly.
“ I don’t give a damn. I need him. Jha go and find him.” Mann shouted.
Jha walked towards the cafeteria to find him.
“Sir, what happened?” Sanchet came running and asked.
“I need your guy Rejan. He knew about the money and now its all gone.”
“Find that fucking pussy right now.” Mann said angrily.
“I’ll go and look for him right now.” Sanchet walked out of the door.
Jha came running by to Mann. “Anish wants to speak to you”
“What does that pussy have to say now?” Mann exploded again.
“Yeah spit it out.” Mann ordered.
“Sir, sorry for the delay. The money has been divided into 20 small parts so that it can’t be traced. It has been transferred to 20 different accounts.” Anish said.
“I was able to identify one person who’s related to the case. The money has been transferred to the account of Nabin Shrestha of Siddhartha Bank.” Anish added.
“But when I still went deeper, I was able to fetch the photograph of the account holder.” Anish was so proud of himself.
“Who is he?” Mann couldn’t wait any longer.
“Its Sanchet Shrestha, General Manager of the Jinx Technologies.” Anish said.
“I’ll send you the account details with the picture as a proof.” Anish replied.
“Okay, beginner’s luck fuckhead.” Mann praised him indirectly. He cut the phone call.
“Jha, go find Mr. Shrestha. Quick.” Mann ordered.
Mr. Shrestha was just about to exit the parking gate when Jha found him.
“Did you find Rejan?” Sanchet asked.
“Yes Mr. Nabin Shrestha. We found who we were looking for.” Mann came running by smiling.
“Nabin? Who Nabin? Its Sanchet sir.” Mr. Shrestha tried to free his collar from Jha’s hands.
“Don’t fucking pretend now. We know what you did.” Mann shouted.
“The money.. thats why you ruined that family.” Mann said.
“You don’t have any proof.” Sanchet said.
“We’ll find one soon.” Jha said.
Jha brought the phone and handed it to Mann again. “Its Anish again.”
“Sir, I scanned all 20 accounts. I found the other culprit too. 10 parts of the money has been transferred to Mr. Shrestha’s fake accounts.” Anish paused for a bit.
“And the other 10?” Mann had to ask.
“The other 10 was transferred to Ms. Nisha Singh’s fake accounts.” Anish added.
“I’ll mail you the details with the pictures.” Anish replied.
“I am impressed.” Mann said and ended the call.
“Take him in custody and make arrangements to send him to the office.” Mann ordered Jha.
Jha handed Sanchet to two officers to take him to the office.
“Lets go to Fewa Bank now. We need to meet Nisha again now.” Jha said.
Mann was on the driver seat and as soon as Jha entered, he drove at the full speed and reached the bank in less than 10 minutes.
“We need to make sure we have proof now.” Jha said.
“Don’t just take her in custody. We need proof.” Jha added.
“I know that Jha. I am more fucking aged and experienced than you. “ Mann said.
“Ms. Nisha.” Mann ordered the receptionist.
The receptionist made the call and she asked them to go upstairs. Nisha was unaware that Sanchet was already taken into custody.
“Ms. Nisha, we meet again. I hope you are free for rest of the day.” Mann smiled for the first time.
“Not free but yes I have time for you guys, of course.” Nisha responded.
“Don’t fucking act now. We found the money tracked back to Mr. Sanchet of Jinx Technologies.” Mann said.
“And the fingerprint on the door knob was also of him.” Jha added.
“And he sold you out. You are his partner and was equally responsible for the murder.” Jha said.
“That’s nuisance. He will never say that.” Nisha defended herself.
“Mr. Shrestha even gave us all your fake accounts, where the money was transferred.” Jha said.
“What? “ Nisha was terrified for the first time.
“And the fingerprint on the doorknob proved the murder.” Jha added.
“He fucking sold you out Miss. We are here to take you in charge of murder.” Mann said.
“Murder.” Nisha uttered a word.
“Yes murder. He said you killed them. He should only be charged for the money not the murder.” Jha added.
“That coward said that? But you are wrong about the prints.” Nisha replied.
“There was prints and its you who killed them. You fucking you and your partner confirmed it already.” Mann said.
“How can be there any prints?” Nisha uttered mentally weakened.
“There were.” Mann shouted.
“There can’t be.” Nisha replied instantly.
“There were” Mann shouted again.
“There can’t be” Nisha replied quickly again.
“Why?” Mann changed the question immediately.
“Because we used the gloves properly.” Nisha spat out something important now.
“Yes gloves. Recorded.” Jha said.
“You are doomed now Miss Nisha. For the charge of murder and robbery.” Jha said.
Nisha couldn’t speak anything for a moment. She was then taken into custody and put into the car with Jha and Mann.
“You destroyed that family for some money. Shame on you.” Jha couldn’t even shout.
“Now after all has been proved. Tell us why? About the money too?” Mann was calm for a change.
“The money was um small portion from every penny invested by the various people in our bank. I um stole small amount of unnoticeable paisas from their accounts and kept in that untraceable account.” Nisha said.
“And how did Sanchet and Mr. Kharel got mixed up in all this? Jha asked.
“When the company wanted to secure the bank’s transactions, they approached Jinx Technologies and for the Kathmandu branch, the bank called Sanchet and while installing the system, he found out about the money. I made him 50-50 partner.” Nisha added.
“Then Mr. Kharel was approached for the Pokhara branch. Since the money was in Kathmandu branch, we thought we were safe. But he tried to connect the system of two branches. And found out about the money.” Nisha said.
“He even gave me a warning to expose all this and blame it on me. Since me and Sanchet used to attend many events at his house, we were close enough. We went to his house that night to offer him money to shut him up.”
“But he again didn’t cooperated. I lost my temper and one thing led to another. Mrs. Kharel was the wrong person at the wrong place.” She broke down in tears.
“We wanted to search for the documents inside the car but we were too late to react so we ran away.” Nisha was still in tears.
They were in the office gate. Jha was recording everything she said.
“Take these fucking criminals to the prison.” Mann ordered.
“Make sure that they rot in jail.” Mann shouted.
“Finally the case is over. Now the main thing, what should we do with the child?” Jha asked.
“Our officer has been taking care of her but we need a home for her.” Jha added.
“The victim’s brother. Since he is the only one left in the family. After all, he is a loner twat. He needs something in his life.” Mann said.
“Prepare the documents for his custody and I don’t fucking trust him with a child so warn him that we will come to check on the child every now and then.” Mann ordered.
“Okay Mann.” Jha said.
“Come here, useless noobhead. You have impressed me today. You will work with us now.” Mann was actually praising his talent.
“Now the case is finally over. Drinks maybe?” Jha offered.
“Not now Jha. I need to be home. Its been time to make things right.” Mann said.
“Alright.” Jha waved.
Mann drove away at his top speed and reached his home. The door was locked but the key was as always under the doormat.
He entered to find half of the belongings gone and a letter on the table.
The cover of the letter showed,
“Unfortunately Yours”
